Home Swap Rules

The connections that you bridge when swapping bonds usually remain for a long time. Once the whole the home swap is over, your connection with the swap partner is just beginning. Swap partners inevitably become friends, in the event they don’t become friends it’s always good to maintain contact. This is because people usually swap homes on the basis of references given by previous swap partners. For the bond between two swap partners to sustain even after the home exchange, they must end the swap in the right manner. Before you hand over the house make sure it is in a better shape than it was when you moved in. This means a good thorough cleaning, not just casual straightening up. Get the linens washed and the bed sheets changed and set the bed, the family would be coming tired from their vacation. The last thing they want is to deal with your grubby linen. The next thing is to be a good guest, don’t burden your swap partner with the additional work of shipping the things you left behind.

Comb though each room at least a couple of time before you leave and pick up any stray items. Shipping you items back to you is a major hassle, especially if your partner is a busy man. Thirdly, end with a nice note; preferably write your swap partner a thank you note. Regardless of the fact we loved their place or wished we were back home, letting someone else use his/he home is certainly a magnanimous gesture which requires a thank you. Also apologize if you have broken anything and leave the full reimbursement, no matter what the cost.  Everyone likes a nice present, so leave one as a “host gift”, just like you give your relative when you spend the weekends with them. Don’t make it a very expensive one as we are not really expecting one in return. Moreover it might make your swap partner uncomfortable   if they are not familiar with the custom. An ideal price range is within $100 mark, and make sure it is reflective of your home in some way so that it serves as a memento. Once you return home and fond your home in good condition to write a feedback note.

A typical note would go something like this, “We arrived at the place at 4.30 this evening and were pleased to be greeted by clean towels, sheets and the house as a whole! Thank you so much for all the work you have done: it would have taken quite an effort to entertain two little ones, get everyone ready and clean the whole house in spite of it. We hope your fight went well. The weather prediction for your place states that the climate at your place would be moderate, which will allow you to ease back into NY temperature before the cold sets in. Give regards to everyone. Thank you once again for taking such good care of our home”.   This is an ideal way to communicate with someone whom you just swapped homes with. It is same friendly tone that one hopes for all along with an exchange partner.
